Ho! Ho! Ho!

Like I mentioned before, my original plan for this Christmas was to have someone cater at my parents because my SIL have just delivered. Unfortunately, the caterers that I called up required a minimum of 50 people or a very expensive menu. So, I guess that plan is history. We have to move to plan B, that is cooking the food at home.

Another secret plan of mine was to play the Secret Santa by buying everyone a present each. Buying Christmas presents was never part of our family culture. So, I thought of doing it at least once since I got an early bonus from my "other jobs". This plan is still in the making as J and I were very busy last weekend and we had not gone for Christmas shopping. We are still keeping our fingers crossed and hope that we can make this work!

I was browsing throught some photos taken during Christmas time for the past two years, and these are some of my favourite shots...

My family and I would like to wish everyone a...
Merry Christmas!!

Blogger Out Of Beta!

I was trying to copy something out of my template and this was when I read the announcement that Blogger has finally released it's new version!

I have been trying to migrate to the Beta version for the past few months but was unsuccessful due to unknown reasons. Just now, the migration went on without a single glitch! I have yet to check out their new features, but I am sure I will be satisfied.

I think Blogger lost some followers throughout their Beta period, but I am sure they learned some valuable lessons for future upgrade.

No Sleep

For the past two weeks, J and I were not getting enough sleeping hours at all! Little Skywalker refused to sleep unless it was well past midnight. Since we wake up around 5am every morning, we are getting less than five hours of rest a day!

Things got worse for the past few days when Little Skywalker demanded to go downstairs and watch his Wiggles after we read him his bedtime stories. He would cry, yell, drag his mother's shirt and create a big dramatic scene until one of us relented. Being a hot tempered guy, I will get really riled up with his stubborn behavior (well, I guess we were to blamed). Unfortunately, he just gets worse if we were to shout or spank him.

One good thing we got out of this is that he is starting to sleep by himself without breastfeeding. I guess he is just exhausted from all his wailing and struggling. We really don't know what to do with his newfound night-owl activity. Yesterday, I had to spend more than 30 minutes talking to him and slowly divert his attention so that J can have some sleep. I ended up with a sore throat this morning.

More importantly, I hate to imagine how not-having-enough-sleep will do to J's pregnancy...

p/s: touch wood, touch wood, touch wood (x100)...

Christmassy Spirit

"It's the most wonderful time of the year..."

Holiday season is just round the corner. With Christmas and New Year coming soon, the festive spirit is just hard to resist! This time round, we have more to celebrate! First, it was the joy of having a new family member joining us. Secondly, we don't have to "work" through the holidays like last year, where two weddings were held one after another. Furthermore, my in-laws are in town for a long stay until Christmas as well!

For all the above reasons, I have decided to hold a big family Christmas dinner at my parents' place. The problem now is to find a caterer who can come at such short notice. Ideas anyone?
p/s: Though, that Samy Vellu guy did kinda spoil the party a little bit...

Flashback

While I was carrying my newborn niece at the hospital, my brain began to flashback to the moment when Little Skywalker was born. It was then I realised that J and I have not carried a newborn baby until he/she is three days old. All we ever experienced were fear and anxiety that Little Skywalker might not survive back then.

Although it has been more than two years now, the past still haunts us, especially now, when the second baby is on the way. We only pray that this round, we can welcome the new baby in a normal and joyful way, like what my brother and SIL are experiencing now...

By the way, my little niece is named Tiffany and her Chinese name is 心慈 (which mean kind hearted).

p/s: My brother has been complaining that he did not have enough sleep for the past few days... LOL!

Not The Youngest Anymore!

After more than two years on the crown, Little Skywalker is no longer the youngest (or the king of the hill) in the family anymore. My brother's wife gave birth to a baby girl last Sunday morning! It was such a happening weekend for everyone in the family! Lucky for us, Monday was a public holiday for Selangor, and I took leave as well!

My SIL's EDD was on the 20th December, they came back to stay at my parents' last Saturday because they planned to deliver at UMMC. She had a show on Saturday morning and was admitted in the afternoon. We thought she would be discharged the next day. I received a SMS from my brother around 7am Sunday morning to inform us that my SIL has delivered.

We brought lunch for them later in the afternoon and were among the first happy ones to carry the newborn baby! She is very adorable and has very long fingers and toes (like her mother). She weighs 2.994kg and measured up to 50cm when she was born!

As for Little Skywalker, he slept in the car on the way to the hospital. I even put him in the baby cot that was meant for the new-born girl. He woke up later and was all excited to sayang, hold and carry his younger cousin...

My SIL and her child were discharged yesterday afternoon.

Legal Implications of Conversion

In relation with some negative news report that have been highlighted in the media lately, I received a "FYI email" from a trustworthy source - A document issued by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Malaysia to local Christians, titled "The Legal Implications of Conversion to Islam".

The content of the document is to highlight the important changes in your legal status when you convert to Islam. Note that the legal implications are only applicable in Malaysia (and probably only less than a handful of countries out there).

I reproduce the key points raised in the document for everyone's knowledge because I think every citizen living in Malaysia has a right to know.

If you convert to Islam, there are important changes in your legal status and what you can or cannot do. Your conversion to Islam will be registered with the Religious Department and the National Registration Department, both of which are computerised so access to this information is available throughout the country.

Under Syariah enactments of most of the 13 States of Malaysia:

  • Conversion back to your former religion is either
    - not allowed under the law, or
    - a criminal offence which means that you may be fined, whipped, detained or imprisoned under most State Islamic laws.
  • If you are under 18 years of age, you require your parents' permission to convert to Islam. Your identity card will record your conversion to Islam. Therefore, even if you are no longer practising Islam, you may be fined, whipped, detained or imprisoned for violation of Syariah laws such as praying in Church, eating in public during fasting month, "khalwat" etc.
  • You cannot marry a non-Muslim. If you decide to divorce and attempt to convert out of Islam, you will lose custody of your children because they are Muslims.
Upon death, your non-Muslim relatives will lose their rights to any property, money etc. that you want to leave to them. The corpse of a convert to Islam will be taken away from his or her non-Muslim family for Islamic rites and burial even if you have not been a practising Muslim for many years.
  • In the event that your spouse converts to Islam, you may have no right to either your children or your spouse's property.

p/s: Please bear in mind that this is not in any way to discourage anyone from converting to the beautiful religion of Islam (as explained in the original document which was published on 14th August 2005 in the local Catholic News).

The Good Ol' Tree

The ol' tree goes back a long way within our family. My parents bought it from Singapore before I was even born! It has been in the family for almost three decades now and it's still standing tall at 7 feet. Although some of the branches has already broken, the rest are still very well maintained.

While I was away at Singapore, J and Little Skywalker stayed at my parents' place for a couple of nights. While they were there, Little Skywalker helped to set up the ol' Christmas tree. It's a warm feeling to see the family tradition being passed on to the next generation...

The colourful lights and ornaments will come and go, but the good ol' tree will remain...

EDD

J went for her first check-up at a nearby clinic yesterday. Her first visit to the hospital (UMMC) is not due until she is at least into her forth month of pregnancy.

The doctor did a simple ultrasound test to confirm the pregnancy. Since J could not remember her last menstrual cycle, the doctor calculated the EDD based on the scan and compared it with the estimate given by J. Both of them matched closely.

The official EDD given by the doctor is 30th June, 2007!

In a freakish coincidence, the EDD given is exactly the same with Little Skywalker's EDD (minus the year of course)!

p/s: You are given enough time to prepare your gift to our second baby :P

Scenery

If you think yesterday's punch line was slick, get a load of what he came up with last night!

Little Skywalker was kept busy with his daily dose of Wiggles while J and I do our chores. As usual, I went out the door to hang our laundry. Careless J forgot to lock the door and Little Skywalker wanted to follow me out.

J tried to stop him by preventing him from opening the sliding door...

J: *holding the door* 不要出去啦! Dark dark outside! (Don't go out lah!)
L: *struggling with his mother* 要啦! 不要挡住我看风景! (Want lah! Don't block me from looking at the scenery!)

And the laughter alarm went off yet again...
